Job description

POSITION:     Assistant Professor of Philosophy.  This is an entry-level, tenure-track position.  The successful candidate will be appointed untenured.

QUALIFICATIONS:     AOS:  Philosophy of Science, with a preference for Philosophy of Biology, broadly construed.  AOC:  Open, but the Department would particularly welcome strengths in Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, and/or Philosophy of Technology. PhD in hand by August 17, 2022, publications or evidence of strong research and scholarly promise, and evidence of excellence in teaching are required.

TEACHING:      The current teaching load is 4 courses/seminars per year, including courses in AOS.  Undergraduate and graduate teaching are required, including introductory-level courses in philosophy.  

SALARY:     Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

THE DEPARTMENT:     The Department houses three undergraduate concentrations and a terminal M.A. program. The Department’s historical strengths include global philosophies along with applied ethics, particularly animal ethics, bioethics, and environmental ethics. The Department is working to strengthen an existing undergraduate concentration in Philosophy, Science, and Technology.  Our M.A. students have diverse backgrounds, including students without undergraduate degrees in philosophy.

THE UNIVERSITY:     Colorado State University has an enrollment of approximately 34,000 students, including 4,000 graduate students.  It is a Carnegie I Research-extensive institution. 

THE CITY:     Ft. Collins is a growing community of about 165,000 people.  It sits at the foot of Colorado's Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and on the scenic Cache La Poudre River.  It is located about 60 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park. Denver is also located about an hour's drive away.  Ft. Collins has its own symphony, cultural center, ballet and theater companies, and a beautifully restored downtown restaurant and entertainment district. Industries in the area include Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Teledyne-Waterpik, New Belgium Brewing, and Anheuser-Busch.
