Job description

INDIANA UNIVERSITY, Bloomington, IN. Ruth Norman Halls Research Associate in the History of Philosophy. This is a one year appointment with a possible extension. Start date may be as early as January 2022, but beginning date is flexible. This position will be affiliated with the Richard Rufus Project (rrp.stanford.edu) as a collaborator on its editions of Rufus’ Metaphysics commentary and his Oxford Lectures. Currently we are working on Rufus’ Metaphysics Zeta – Lambda and his Oxford Sentences Commentary. Applications will be accepted both from early career and mid-career medievalists.

The duties of the Halls Research Associate will vary, depending on what needs to be done; they will probably include reading manuscripts, rereading problematic texts, writing parts of an introduction, and working with computer assisted searches and typesetting. Comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to research in Medieval Philosophy with a strong background in Ancient and, if possible, Early Modern Philosophy expected. 

Applicants will also need to be comfortable working with both medieval paleography and computer based projects. While teaching is not required, the successful candidate may ask to teach up to one course; in such cases, the courses that the successful candidate teaches will be determined in part by, and in consultation with, the Indiana University Department of Philosophy. Applicants should have a Ph.D. at time of appointment. ABD applicants will be considered.
