Lecturer or Instructor (EXPIRED)

The University of South Dakota invites applications for a full-time, permanent instructor or lecturer of philosophy, beginning in August 2022. This is a teaching-only position with no research component. It will involve teaching nine courses per academic year, including several sections of Introduction to Ethics and occasional electives. Teaching will be both face-to-face and online. Candidates for Lecturer must hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment; a lecturer will be elligible for promtion to Senior Lecturer. Candidates for Instructor must hold a Masters in Philosophy by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in Environmental Ethics, World Religions, or Logic. (There is no expectation, however, that candidates be prepared to teach in all of those areas.)

The contract will specify 90% teaching and 10% service. Teaching will consist of four courses in one semester and five in the other, including several sections of Introduction to Ethics and other philosophy courses, depending on the instructor’s interests and background. The service component will include contributing to recruitment efforts in the philosophy program and developing our degree specialization in Ethics, Law, and Society.
