The Institute of Philosophy invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in Practical Philosophy (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %, FwN), starting April 1, 2022.

The position is attached to the Chair for Practical Philosophy, particularly Ethics of Science (Professor Dr. Dietmar Hübner) and is initially limited to 3 years, with the possibility of extension. The position is remunerated according to salary scale “E13 TV-L” (Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Länder).

The position is meant to serve the individual academic qualification of the holder and to provide general support for the Chair in research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to do administrative work for the Institute and to contribute to the Institute’s teaching program (2 classes per semester).

Responsibilities and duties include independent research in the fields of general ethics, applied ethics, political philosophy and/or free will and responsibility. Teaching shall be focussed on the practical philosophy modules of the BA and MA programs of the Institute (Philosophy, Values & Norms, Philosophy of Science).

To qualify for the position, applicants must hold an academic degree in philosophy. A Ph.D. in philosophy and previous work in some of the above-mentioned fields are expected. Applicants should have a general interest in philosophy of science and be fluent in English.

Leibniz University Hannover considers itself a family-friendly university and therefore promotes a balance between work and family responsibilities. Part-time employment can be arranged upon request.

The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented. Women are under-represented in the salary scale of the advertised position. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Moreover, we welcome applications from qualified men. Preference will be given to equally-qualified applicants with disabilities.
