Job description

The College of Arts and Letters at Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable faculty appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor of Science & Technology Studies (STS) with an emphasis in computing and/or computation, beginning in fall 2022. Candidates should have a PhD (or be ABD) in a field affiliated with or closely related to Science and Technology Studies, including the History, Anthropology, Sociology, or Philosophy of Science and/or Technology. They will also have a track record of prior research and scholarly expertise in issues relating to Computers and Society (broadly construed).

The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate course on “Computers and Society,” whose primary enrollees are Computer Science majors, as their main teaching duties. Other courses may be assigned according to the individual’s background and expertise. The successful candidate will also possess experience teaching STS-related courses at the undergraduate level, with preference given to candidates whose work makes connections between technical aspects of computing technologies and their social outcomes.

The College of Arts and Letters at Stevens values diversity and seeks candidates who can contribute to a welcoming climate for students. Stevens is an NSF ADVANCE institution committed to equitable practices and policies.  We strongly encourage qualified women and minority candidates to apply.

Stevens Institute of Technology, founded in 1870, is located in Hoboken, NJ, directly across the Hudson River from New York City. Stevens students, faculty, and partners leverage their collective real-world experience and culture of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship to confront global challenges in engineering, science, systems, and technology management. The College of Arts and Letters contributes to the mission of Stevens with programs that engage in research and creative activity at the intersection of science, technology, the arts, humanities, and social science in ways that benefit society.
