Job description

The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities invites applications for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor position, beginning fall of 2022, in the areas of history of philosophy and/or bioethics broadly construed to include environmental ethics and healthcare ethics. This is an untenured, but continuing and tracked position (Assistant, Associate, and Full Teaching Professor), with progressively longer contracts (up to 5 years).

The responsibilities for this position include teaching history of philosophy and applied ethics courses in the Department of Philosophy and Religion (six courses per year), such as Ancient Philosophy and Political Thought, Modern Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, Moral and Social Problems in Healthcare, and Food Ethics, as well as contributing to and developing co-curricular undergraduate programming and opportunities.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field is required by the start date. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching excellence or a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. They will also have a strong interest in pedagogical, curricular, and co-curricular innovation. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.
