Job description |
The Department of Religion at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick, N.J.) invites applications for the Alka Siddhartha Dalal Endowed Postdoctoral Fellowship in Jainism to begin Fall 2022. The fellowship is open to candidates who specialize in any subfield of Jain Studies, including but not limited to religion, history, philosophy, art, or literature. The postdoctoral fellow will be appointed to a two-year term with the possibility of an extension for a maximum of two additional years. During their appointment, the fellow will conduct research, participate in departmental activities, lead on-campus programs (e.g., an academic workshop in Jain Studies), and deliver public scholarly lectures in Jain Studies. The teaching load is 1/1 per year, with one course focusing on Jainism and the other containing substantial Jain component. Applicants must have a Ph.D., or will have fulfilled all requirements for the Ph.D., in Religious Studies, Asian Studies, History, Philosophy, or other cognate fields, by the time of appointment. They should be cognizant of theories and methodologies in the study of religion and should expect to participate in the department’s programs as well as develop their own programming. The fellowship carries a generous fund to support the fellow’s research and programming needs.
