Job description

Supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation (Launching Experimental Philosophy of Religion project), postdoctoral fellows will conduct research on an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of cognitive science and the philosophy of religion.

The postdoctoral fellow will be associated with the Yale University Department of Philosophy. The position is research only, with no teaching. The appointment will be for one year.

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct their own research but also participate in a larger interdisciplinary research project that focuses on the cognitive science of teleological thinking. In work on this research project, the postdoctoral fellow will pursue research that involves both (a) conducting experimental studies on people's teleological thinking and (b) exploring the philosophical implications of the results of the studies.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field. The project welcomes applications from scholars specializing in any area of philosophy. Candidates should indicate in their cover letters whether they have prior experience conducting empirical studies and, if so, what that prior experience involved.
