Applications are invited for a full-time Research Fellow to conduct collaborative research in applied ethics for the research project Protecting Minds: The Right to Mental Integrity and the Ethics of Arational Influence with a focus on the ethics of persuasive digital technologies. The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of Professor Thomas Douglas, Principal Investigator for the ERC-funded project, which is hosted by the Uehiro Centre within the Faculty of Philosophy. This post is fixed term for two years from the date of appointment with excellent opportunities for career advancement. The Fellow will produce publications of high-quality research, undertake literature reviews, build collaborative relationships with key groups and individuals working in relevant research areas and participate in other project activities, such as public engagement and policy work, grant applications and event planning. The postholder is required to hold, or be close to completion of, the degree of PhD (or equivalent qualification) in philosophy or other relevant discipline (such as law) with a specialisation in applied ethics, normative ethics, neuroethics, medical ethics, medical law, law and technology, political philosophy, legal philosophy or another area closely related to the themes of the project. Also essential are excellent research skills, an outstanding research record appropriate to the present stage of career, and demonstrated ability to publish in leading journals in philosophy and/or law.
