Career Development Fellowship in Philosophy (EXPIRED)

Christ Church, invites applications for a three-year Career Development Fellow (CDF) in Philosophy from 1 October 2022 or 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded by Christ Church but the candidate will also be an associate member of the Philosophy Faculty, University of Oxford.

The post is offered on a full-time, fixed term basis for three years. The Governing Body has a policy of fostering academics’ career-development by means of Career Development Fellowships.  In order to achieve a flow-through of appointments so that this policy can, as circumstances permit, be continued into the future for other academics’ career-development, it is an essential feature of these Fellowships that they are time-limited and cannot be renewed. Therefore, the appointment carries with it no expectation of permanent employment at Christ Church.

The fellow will be expected to carry out a forefront research programme in Logic and/or the Philosophy of Mathematics at a level comparable with that in leading departments worldwide. The role will involve undertaking and publishing research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate supervision, and will also encompass administrative, governance, outreach, and pastoral duties.

Salary will be in the range £42,149-£50,296 per annum (current rates), according to qualifications and experience (current rates). New appointments are usually made at the first point of the scale.

The successful candidate should hold, or be close to completion of, a doctorate in Philosophy by 1st October 2022, or other relevant discipline. Postdoctoral Fellows are welcome to apply. Those who formally submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination prior to 1 October 2017 are not eligible, unless they have had a career break (e.g. a period of parental leave, family commitments, illness or other circumstances), or there are exceptional circumstances. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a high standard of research potential and achievement depending on experience, and have the ability to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures, and supervision.
