Software Developer, PhilPapers (EXPIRED)

The PhilPapers Foundation is looking for a Software Developer to participate in the development of its web services (PhilPapers.org, PhilPeople.org, and several others), which are used by philosophers all over the world.

The Foundation's newest services are built on a cutting-edge web stack including:

• Ruby on Rails
• Relational (MySQL) and noSQL databases
• High-performance messaging services (RabbitMQ)
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Vuejs, typescript, and nuxt
• Amazon Web Services

In addition, we maintain and upgrade legacy systems built on Perl and Grails stacks.

Our ideal candidate has some experience with some of these technologies, but a willingness to learn new tools and methods is the most important asset. The Foundation's technical team is small (3-4 people), so this is an opportunity to hone a broad range of skills, from design to devops. We are looking for a flexible, adaptable individual with initiative who enjoys a variety of technical tasks.

Training in philosophy is not necessary or expected but can be an asset. A hybrid appointment with an academic component could be available to a candidate with relevant academic skills.

The Foundation is based at the Centre for Digital Philosophy at Western University in London, Ontario, and the successful candidate will have a desk in our development office, but remote candidates will be given full consideration.
