The Philosophy Department of Hampden-Sydney College seeks applicants in any field of analytic philosophy (except early modern and philosophy of science) for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an exceptional teacher with a demonstrated commitment to liberal-arts education and an active research agenda. Teaching load is seven courses per year; classes are typically small and taught seminar style. Successful applicants are expected to teach a course in professional ethics for the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest and should be eager to participate both in Wilson Center co-curricular programming and in the College’s Honors and Core Cultures programs. Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the date of appointment.

Hampden-Sydney College is a selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 1000 students. Founded in 1775, it is the tenth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Our beautiful 1300-acre campus is less than 7 miles from downtown Farmville, home to Longwood University and the Moton Museum, which is listed on the U.S. Civil Rights Trail. The campus is located 65 miles west of Richmond, 50 miles east of Lynchburg, and 75 miles south of Charlottesville, providing abundant cultural, recreational and artistic resources.
