Job description |
The Center for Bioethics and Social Justice (BSJ) at Michigan State University announces a faculty position in Social Justice-Oriented Bioethics. This will be a tenure system assistant professor position, on an academic year (9 month) appointment. Salary is competitive. The appointment will begin August 16, 2023. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to MSU’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive university. Founded in 1977, BSJ recently changed its focus to social justice-oriented bioethics, adopting a new name and mission in 2021:
With a brand-new mission in place, BSJ is seeking a researcher who has a passion for social justice-oriented bioethics to join us in building BSJ to reflect its new mission. Research is an important and integral component of the College of Human Medicine. It informs and transforms our teaching and clinical environment into one where knowledge is used and disseminated but also where knowledge is produced by discovery. Research keeps us on the leading edge of medicine and active as participants in advancing the prevention, control, and treatment of diseases. As a community-based medical school, one goal of the College of Human Medicine is to conduct collaborative, multidisciplinary and multi-community research that takes advantage of our unique distributed campus system. Our focus is on both clinical research that can be practically applied, as well as the critical research in the basic science departments affiliated with the college on mechanisms underlying human diseases and their integration. BSJ resides in the College of Human Medicine (the College) at Michigan State University. The College uses the Shared Discovery Curriculum— a cutting-edge curricular model which eschews traditional disciplinary courses to instead integrate all necessary science education, and prioritize immersion in clinical experience across the curriculum. BSJ is tasked with developing and teaching bioethics as well as general oversight to ensure bioethics content integration. The successful applicant’s duties will be based on an effort distribution that includes research, teaching and outreach/service. Research:
