Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Trinity University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2023. SALARY: Competitive. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in philosophy at the time of appointment. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include the following. 1. Teaching five undergraduate classes each year (3 classes one semester followed by 2 the next, or the equivalent). 2. Academic research, including publication of books or articles in professional venues and presentation of scholarship at professional conferences, as well as publications and presentations for non-academic audiences. 3. Advising majors and serving the department, university, profession, and community. 4. Teach regularly in Trinity’s First-Year Experience and offer classes that contribute to Trinity’s interdisciplinary, experiential-learning, or faculty-led study-abroad programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Area of Specialization: Open. Area of Competence: Strong evidence of teaching ability in both (i) a non-Anglo-European philosophical tradition, and (ii) one or more of the following: logic, Classical Greek philosophy, philosophy of language, or philosophy of mind. The successful candidate will be expected to teach regularly in the University’s First-Year Experience course. Qualities and Skills: Strong potential for teaching undergraduates; strong potential for scholarship; strong potential for service to the department, university, profession, and community.
