The successful candidate must be able to teach an intro-level undergraduate Environmental Ethics course, a variety of additional intro-level philosophy courses, and a general-education philosophy/humanities course with the theme “Making Sense of the Local and the Global” that is part of a scaffolded, general-education curriculum co-managed by an interdisciplinary committee of colleagues outside of the department. A demonstrated ability to do interdisciplinary work that engages with environmental science and/or public policy issues related to sustainability and the environment would be very welcome, as would an ability to teach in some of the following specific areas: philosophy of science, philosophy of mind/cognitive science, metaphysics, business ethics, introductory logic, critical thinking, ancient Greek philosophy, modern philosophy (i.e., metaphysics and epistemology from Descartes through Kant). Other responsibilities include maintaining currency in the fields of scholarship related to teaching duties, supporting students, assisting with ongoing outcomes assessment procedures, and doing additional professional service in support of the department, college, and university. Ph.D. in Philosophy must be in hand no later than August 15, 2023. Teaching experience is required.

We are looking for a colleague who is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, who is skilled at teaching general-education courses in ways that excite students while introducing them to meaningful philosophical inquiry, and who is able to attract a diverse group of students to become philosophy majors.
