Job description

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, SAN BERNARDINO; San Bernardino, CA.  Appointment to begin in Fall 2023.  Rank:  Assistant Professor.  AOS: Feminist Philosophy.  AOC: Open.  Official teaching load is 4 courses (two preparations) per semester with course release for junior faculty, research, and service.  Class sizes are capped at 26.  Salary is competitive.  The Department of Philosophy at CSUSB is a pluralistic department, and we welcome applications from philosophers of all backgrounds.  We strongly encourage applications from women and minorities. 

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate classes for the university’s General Education program and undergraduate classes for the Philosophy major. Service responsibilities in the department, including academic advising for our majors, are shared among all tenure-line faculty.  To earn tenure, the candidate must demonstrate excellence in three areas: teaching, research, and service. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD by the time of appointment (Fall 2023); candidates who are ABD at the time of application will be considered.

  • Specialization in feminist philosophy.

  • Evidence of ability to teach advanced undergraduate courses in feminist philosophy.

  • Evidence of ability to teach introductory and General Education courses in philosophy. 

  • Evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

The Department of Philosophy at CSUSB is a pluralistic, collegial department.  We are in a period of growth, both in the number of tenure track faculty and in number of majors.  Our GE offerings are in high demand.  We are dedicated to giving our undergraduates an excellent philosophical education in small-class settings.  We also are passionate about producing scholarship in our respective fields.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.
