Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Seattle University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. We have multiple areas of teaching need including Ancient Philosophy, Medieval Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Ethics, African and Africana Philosophy, and Continental Philosophy.

The ideal candidate will bring specialization or competence in a combination of two or more of these areas, have a strong background in the general history of philosophy, demonstrated teaching excellence, strong scholarly potential, some familiarity with the Catholic intellectual tradition, and the ability to engage with colleagues representing diverse philosophical traditions. Competence in a non-European tradition of philosophy would be an advantage. We are particularly interested in candidates who will help diversify our curriculum and contribute to our work on developing anti-racist pedagogies.  Preferred candidates will demonstrate a clear commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, social justice, and multicultural competence in an educational environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses across the curriculum, including the two required philosophy core courses (Philosophy of the Human Person and Ethics),  courses for the Philosophy major, and courses for the University Honors program. They will maintain a productive research program and will provide service to the department, school, and university.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy by August 31, 2023.
