Job Summary The Department of Philosophy at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) has two openings in Ethics at the Assistant Professor level. AOS: Ethics. AOC: Open, but the department has an interest in strengthening its profile in political philosophy. Principal Duties: Purdue is a member of the American Association of Universities, and thus a strong research profile is expected of the successful candidate in addition to graduate mentoring. Standard non-teaching duties. Teaching load is 4 courses/year (2/semester), undergraduate and graduate, including two courses per year in the College of Liberal Arts’ Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts first-year curriculum (SCLA 101 or SCLA 102). This curriculum is highly flexible but emphasizes student engagement with primary texts in philosophy, literature, and history. Additional departmental duties may include teaching some of the following courses in applied Ethics: Biomedical Ethics, Environmental Ethics, or Ethics and Animals. Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy or related field required prior to appointment.
