Job description

The Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College welcomes applications for an open rank position in philosophy and critical theory. We seek candidates who can demonstrate how their work engages with questions of race and class, gender and sexuality, or post- and decolonial thought. The appointment begins August 24, 2023 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 24 & 25, 2023.

The Marlboro Institute is a vibrant and engaged community that houses an Interdisciplinary Studies Major, the General Education Perspectives Curriculum, Liberal Arts Minors, the Honors Program, and the Emerson Prison Initiative.

We seek candidates trained in philosophy and critical theory who can develop innovative and wide-ranging undergraduate courses that contribute to the Ethics and Values Perspective curriculum. Opportunities to contribute to the Honors curriculum, the Philosophy Minor, the Religion Minor, and Interdisciplinary Minors will reflect the candidates’ areas of interest and curricular needs. All teaching is in-person on the Boston campus.

Qualifications:

A PhD in Philosophy, Religion, or related fields is required (or ABD with completion expected by May 2023).

Applicants must submit a cover letter that speaks to teaching and research areas of expertise, current curriculum vita, a short writing sample, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (3-4 sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, etc.), which should all be uploaded to the online application.
