Job description

Trent University invites applications for a joint tenure track appointment in the Department of Philosophy and Department of Political Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2023, focusing on research and teaching in the area of political theory. This position is located at Trent’s Peterborough Campus on the treaty and traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will contribute to building Trent’s areas of strength in Philosophy and Political Studies, and in our undergraduate program specialization in political theory as well as in our interdisciplinary graduate programs. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding candidate who brings expertise in political theory drawing on areas such as critical race theory, feminist theory, queer theory, Indigenous philosophy, comparative philosophy, and in areas that move beyond the traditional Western canon. To be eligible for this appointment, candidates must have a completed Ph.D. (or be close to completion – ABD) in Political Science/Studies, Philosophy, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates will have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and an active program of high quality research. The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research, and service duties commensurate with their appointed rank. Responsibilities will include contributing to curriculum development and teaching in both the Department of Philosophy and Department of Political Studies and developing and expanding a high quality externally funded research program, including grants from Canada tri-council agencies (SSHRC). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach and supervise graduate students in one or more of Trent’s interdisciplinary graduate programs.
