Postdoctoral Scholar (EXPIRED)

The Institute for Practical Ethics, an interdisciplinary research unit at the University of California San Diego, is dedicated to the pursuit of socially responsible science. Forming connections among ethicists, social scientists, natural scientists, health professionals and the community, it seeks to address ethical and social issues facing society, from ethical issues in clinical trials, environmental conservation, stem cell research, engineering and big data, and much more. We invite applications for the position of postdoctoral scholar for the academic year 2023-2024. The institute intends to hire a maximum of two (2) postdoctoral scholars for 2023-2024. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. granted from an accredited university at the time the position begins. The position typically begins in September. The postdoctoral scholar position is a one-year appointment. Salary, as based on the University of California’s salary scales and candidate qualifications, will be provided in exchange for active participation in the institute’s program of activities. The primary task of the postdoctoral scholar is to work on their own research. Any more limited additional duties will be decided through consultation between the postdoctoral scholar and institute co-directors. The postdoctoral scholar is required to be in residence for the entirety of the academic year. The postdoctoral scholar position is open to international applicants. The institute is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research and service.
