Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, GA, seeks applications for a position as a Lecturer. Start date: Fall 2023. The Department is home to a thriving, internationally recognized MA program. GSU is a research university recognized for its commitment to undergraduate teaching. Located in the cosmopolitan city of Atlanta, GSU has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. We seek to recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars and we encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. Lectureships at GSU are non-tenure-track faculty positions which are indefinitely renewable and can lead to promotion to Senior Lecturer and Principal Senior Lecturer, based on excellence in teaching and appropriate service. Typical teaching load is 4/4. Roughly half the teaching will be an interdisciplinary undergraduate course in Biomedical Ethics that draws students from Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Philosophy. Other courses will depend on the teaching expertise of the hire and departmental and university needs. The Department has been very successful at retaining Lecturers and promoting them to higher ranks. Lecturers are voting members of the Department, and the University fully supports their professional development.
