Job description

The School of History, Philosophy & Religion invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position (depending on qualifications).

This position will be connected with the Horning Endowment, which seeks to create a closer link between science and the humanities. The incumbent in this position will be expected to work closely with other stakeholders on campus, including with the leadership of the new Arts and Education Center, the Center for the Humanities, and others. As part of that work, the incumbent in this position will be involved in shared decision-making processes (along with other stakeholders) regarding what kinds of programing and other activities to pursue, and in helping to plan and to execute those plans.  

45% Research:
Conduct research activities in philosophy that lead to the publication of scholarly work in peer-reviewed academic journals or books; presentations at academic conferences; and/or public-facing writing and presentations that engage audiences outside of higher education.

28% Service:
Take part in service relating to SHPR, CLA, OSU and professional associations. Within SHPR, this may include tasks such as serving on promotion committees or peer reviews of teaching. This may also include presentations at OSU or in other local, national and international venues, as well as research and publications.

27% Teaching:
3 courses / year, graduate and undergraduate; courses in ethics and technology and other related areas.

Serve as a member of the leadership team for OSU’s new Arts and Education Complex (AEC). As part of that role, work with other stakeholders in conducting research for, and planning the execution of, exhibits and programming in OSU’s Arts and Education Complex, with a special focus on issues surrounding science, technology, the environment, and the lives and experiences of minoritized communities. Engage in fundraising / grant writing in support of those programs.
