Postdoctoral Fellowship in Philosophy (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy has a vacant Postdoctoral Fellowship in Philosophy. The starting date for the fellowship is 1 August 2023. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years, but an additional fourth year devoted to teaching and supervision may be negotiated. 

The position will be within political philosophy, though other fields of philosophy relevant to a PPE program (Philosophy, politics, and economics) may also be considered. The successful applicant will be expected to take an active part in the department’s research environment.

If a fourth year of teaching is included in the position, this may be connected to the development of and teaching on a PPE program. Teaching, supervision, and assessment in the department's Examen philosophicum-course offer may also be included.

The successful applicant will be expected to conform to the regulations that apply to the position and must accept that their primary residence will be in Bergen for the full term of the appointment.

- The position as postdoctoral research fellow requires a Norwegian doctoral degree in philosophy, or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree. The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation within the closing date of the application and it is a condition of appointment that the PhD has been awarded.

- The applicant must provide a project proposal within political philosophy, or another field of philosophy relevant to PPE, including a progress plan for the project’s main activities, and a plan for publishing results in recognized international channels.
- The successful candidate must be able to work independently in a well-structured way and have good cooperation skills.

In the assessment, the main emphasis will be attached to the submitted works and relevant experience, and to the project proposal. The relevance of the project for PPE may also be given weight.

Strategic considerations, motivation, and the applicant’s personal suitability will also be taken into account.
