About the Job The Philosophy program at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks to hire a term faculty member for the 2023-2024 academic year. Duties/responsibilities The UMD Philosophy Faculty serve philosophy and cognitive science majors and minors; the new faculty member will help cover these programs. (For information about the department and its classes, please visit https://cahss.d.umn.edu/departments/geography-philosophy/philosophy) Teaching: Teach a wide range of philosophy classes effectively, as measured by student, peer, or supervisor evaluations. Appointment: This is a nine-month appointment, running from August 21, 2023 to May 19, 2024. The current teaching load is between 12 -16 credits per semester. There is currently the possibility of internal and system-wide grants and summer teaching. Qualifications Essential qualifications: ● PhD posted on transcript by July 1, 2023 ● AOS in Ethics OR Philosophy of Mind/Cognitive Science Disjunctive) ● At least one year of college level teaching of philosophy (graduate T.A. experience acceptable) ● Promising research program, as evidenced by things like: graduate transcript, writing sample, letters of reference, publications. ● Excellent written and oral communication skills Preferred qualifications: ● PhD at time of application ● AOS in Ethics or Philosophy of Mind/Cognitive Science ● AOC in Philosophy of Race/Racism or Social Political Philosophy ● Extensive teaching experience as primary instructor ● Demonstrated teaching breadth ● Established research program How To Apply Applications must be submitted online, go to the employment system at: https://employment.umn.edu and search for Job Opening 353758.
