Job Description The Philosophy Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston (https://www.umb.edu/academics/cla/philosophy) invites applications for a full-time Non-Tenure Track Lecturer position starting September 1, 2023. This position includes full benefits and is a one-year, renewable contract to teach four courses per semester (http://www.fsu.umb.edu/content/non-tenure-track-faculty-lecturers). Contract renewal and promotion is solely based on teaching and relevant service; there is no expectation of research contributions in evaluating performance. Requirements Applicants must have a PhD in Philosophy by September 2023. Successful candidates will have more than a year’s teaching experience, evidence of teaching excellence, and the ability to teach Phil 100: Introduction to Philosophy, Phil 108: Moral and Social Problems, and a 100-level reasoning course. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching a diverse student population (in terms of race, ethnicity, age, language, and economic background). Applications from members of groups under-represented in the discipline are strongly encouraged. Application instructions Applicants must submit the following materials online to PageUp: a cover letter, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi (including a syllabus for a reasoning course), student evaluations, and two letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses teaching. UMass Boston requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to confirm proof of their vaccination status. Exemptions from the vaccine requirement will be permitted only for qualifying religious or medical reasons.
