Xavier University invites applications for a non-tenure-track position of Visiting Faculty in the Department of Philosophy for the 2023-2024 academic year. There is a possibility that the position may be renewed annually for up to a total of three years. We are looking especially for candidates with a strong background in the history of philosophy, dedicated to teaching from primary sources.  AOS and AOC are open.

Position Responsibilities

The position is full-time, with a four course per semester teaching load, responsible for teaching PHIL 100:  Ethics as Introduction to Philosophy, or PHIL 200, the focus of which varies with the professor.  However, all sections of PHIL100 should treat Plato’s Republic; all sections of PHIL200 should treat Descartes’ Discourse on Method.  For further information about PHIL 100 and PHIL 200, please visit our departmental website:

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or ABD in philosophy preferred.
