Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Stanford University seeks applicants for an appointment in Normative Ethics. This is an open-rank search; the appointment may be at the rank of Assistant Professor (on the tenure-track), Associate Professor (with tenure), or Full Professor. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a related field by the time of employment and will be expected to teach and advise students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2024.

The area of the search will be normative ethics, broadly construed. Of particular interest will be candidates who can lead a robust research and graduate training program in the field for the department. 

Senior candidates of appropriate distinction may be eligible for a Chair connected to Stanford’s initiative onEthics, Society, and Technology.

The salary range for this position is $105,000 – $280,161, for academic year 2024–25. 

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
