Job description

The Philosophy Department invites applications for a tenure-track appointment. Rank: Assistant Professor. AOS: Philosophy and Race, AOC: Open. Position to begin Fall 2024. Two courses per semester, undergraduate and graduate level courses. Dissertation supervision and committee work expected. We are especially interested in candidates whose research, teaching and service will contribute to the excellence and diversity of our university. We understand Philosophy and Race broadly and take it to encompass a variety of topics, including but not limited to racialist ideologies and normativity, metaphysics and epistemology of race, Africana philosophy; Latinx philosophy and indigenous philosophy. We welcome a variety of philosophical approaches and methodologies. Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to conducting active research leading to publications, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses that develop a critical understanding of race including an historical awareness of its function in legitimating domination and colonization. They may teach courses in areas related to their interests and expertise. They may also contribute to the department’s cross-disciplinary affiliations at the University. Minimum Qualifications: PhD prior to appointment, outstanding research potential, teaching excellence, commitment to service.
