Job description

The Centre de recherche en éthique (CRÉ) invites applications for its visiting Fellow scheme for the period of September 1st 2024 to August 31st 2025. This Fellowship is opened to university professors on sabbatical. The length of the stay can vary depending on the dossier and the kind of research envisaged.
_______________________

The mission of the CRÉ is to contribute to research in ethics and to the quality of graduate training in all fields of ethics from meta-ethics to applied questions.

We encourage applications from established researchers working on themes related to the research axes of the CRÉ: meta-ethics and moral psychology, ethics and politics, ethics and economics, environmental and animal ethics, ethics and health, or in one of our cross-axes research themes, like the ethics of artificial intelligence, feminist ethics, and anti-racism and decolonization. We also welcome applications from other disciplines, provided the proposed research is directly linked to questions in ethics.

Successful candidates will have access to an office and, depending on the agreement, to the infrastructure of the Université de Montréal (libraries, gym, etc.). While the fellowship does not include a regular salary, the CRÉ will offer some compensation for travel expenses and other costs associated with the stay, as well as practical assistance in planning the visit.

Visiting professors will be asked to help prepare their online profile on the CRÉ’s website and to provide an activity report at the end of their stay. They also commit to conduct their research project as submitted, participate in the academic activities of the centre (conferences, workshops & seminars), present their work in progress at the centre and contribute to the organization of scientific activities.

The CRÉ is a bilingual institution. Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of French and English to be able to participate in the activities of the centre.

Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria: the nature and quality of the proposed research project and its relevance to the mission of the CRÉ; the quality of previous research by the applicant; potential benefits to the applicant from a stay at the centre.

*The competition for visiting researchers is primarily aimed at professors on sabbatical. Postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to consider the program for postdoctoral research stay instead (https://www.lecre.umontreal.ca/concours-de-sejours-de-recherche-postdoctorale-au-cre-2024-2025/).
