School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies

The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Philosophy with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. Areas of Specialization (AOS): Open, but the candidate’s primary research must be directly and significantly related to at least one of Technology, AI, AI Ethics, Health, or Human Futures. Areas of Concentration (AOC):Open. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program, teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students (a 2/2 load), and participate in service activities in the school, college and university.

Required Qualifications
• PhD or equivalent in Philosophy or related discipline by time of appointment.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research.
• Area of research directly and significantly related to Technology, AI, AI Ethics, Health, or Human Futures.

• Willingness to participate in service activities in the school, college, and university.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to
advance the principles of the ASU Charter.

Desired Qualifications
• Willingness to contribute to our online undergraduate program.
• Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that complement the School’s existing PhD program and its focus on practical and applied philosophy.
• Ability to forge connections between SHPRS and other units at ASU such as the Center for Planetary Health, as well as with the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, the Center for Science and the Imagination, the Beyond Center, and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, and, depending on the hire, potentially the College of Law, School of Life Sciences, School of Social Transformation, Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts, and the medical school that is set to open.
