Job description

The department values candidates with broad philosophical interests who can teach across, and contribute to expanding, the offerings of our undergraduate program. The AOC is thus open, but the department has teaching interests in the following areas, in addition to those AOS areas listed above: the history of philosophy (ancient, early modern, and 19th century), continental philosophy, aesthetics, logic and philosophy of language.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion is seeking to hire a philosopher at a senior or advanced junior rank whose philosophical research profile and promise corresponds with Clemson’s Carnegie R1 designation and whose teaching will contribute to the vitality of our thriving undergraduate program.  The typical course load is 2/2.  The department values candidates with broad philosophical interests who can teach across and expand the offerings of the program.  We especially encourage applicants at the full and associate level.

Senior applicants must show ongoing leading-edge scholarship as well as teaching excellence.  Junior applicants must show the same, requisite to the rank, with significant post-doctoral research publication and teaching excellence.

Applicants for a senior tenured appointment should submit a CV demonstrating a record of research excellence as evidenced by an active research agenda in philosophy and a record of high-quality publications and academic presentations, concise evidence of teaching excellence and service engagement, and a list of three professional references.  Applicants for a junior tenure-track appointment should submit a CV including a research statement[, concise evidence of teaching effectiveness and service engagement, a writing sample in the area of research, and no fewer than three letters of recommendation.  Submissions should be made through Interfolio (ID: 123957).
