Assistant or Associate Professor (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position in Ancient Philosophy and Ethics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 16, 2024.

The successful candidate will pursue an active research agenda in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, be able to contribute to the teaching of courses in Ethics, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. Tenure-line faculty are typically assigned four courses per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants who wish to be considered at the rank of Associate Professor must have an established record of high-quality research and the ability to contribute significantly to graduate education. A Ph.D. in Philosophy and an active research agenda and teaching experience in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy are required. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

The department has recently grown with multiple hires in the last several years. It is committed to ensuring a robust coverage of all the core areas of philosophy, though it has developed special strength in the ethics of technology and artificial intelligence.
