Job description

Job Description:

Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Pittsburgh

The Center for Philosophy of Science invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Postdoctoral Fellowships enable philosophers of science within five years of their doctorates to spend a two-term academic year working in the Center for Philosophy of Science on a project in philosophy of science that they nominate. Two Postdoctoral Fellowships are offered each year.

The Center encourages applications from assistant professors in the early stages of their careers as well as from scholars with newly awarded doctorates. We particularly welcome submissions from members of underrepresented groups.

Postdoctoral Fellows have no formal duties. They are expected to reside in Pittsburgh, to undertake research full time in an office in the Center for Philosophy of Science, and to participate in the life of the Center by attending and giving talks, contributing to discussion groups, etc.

In addition to the two postdoctoral positions at the Center, Professor David Wallace (University of Pittsburgh, Philosophy and History and Philosophy of Science) will also recruit a postdoctoral fellow in the philosophy of physics for 2024-2025 with the possibility of extension to 2025-2026. If you would like to be considered for this position, please indicate it in your cover letter.

Applications are due by December 10th, 2023, and must be submitted electronically on the University of Pittsburgh jobs portal.
