Assistant Professor

The Department of English and World Languages at the University of Montevallo, a public liberal arts university near Birmingham, Alabama, invites applications for a nine-month, full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Philosophy to begin August 2024.

Candidates should have a specialty in history of philosophy, early modern philosophy, and applied ethics, with additional competencies in religion and aesthetics. Primary responsibilities include teaching general education courses, classes within the Philosophy and Religion minor, and upper-level courses for non-majors and minors as needed; participating in departmental and university-wide committee service; and conducting and publishing ongoing academic research. Candidates will ideally also demonstrate ability to teach interdisciplinary courses that support the work of the Department of English and World Languages, as well as other University programs with interdisciplinary requirements.

The preferred candidate will hold a Ph.D. prior to starting the position.  Applicants who are ABD will also be considered, with evidence that they will complete the Ph.D. by the date of employment.
