The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Department of Philosophy (CAH) and the Medical Education Department (COM) seek candidates for a jointly-appointed tenure-track assistant professor position to begin August 8, 2024. The faculty member’s tenure home will be in Philosophy, with annual evaluation in both Philosophy and Medical Education. The faculty member will teach on a 3/2 schedule, with a 2/1 annual course commitment in Philosophy and a 1/1 annual course equivalent commitment in Medical Education.

Candidates should anticipate the expectation of sustained research and teaching excellence across their appointments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Philosophy or relevant field from an accredited institution.

  • Area of competence (AOC) in Medical Humanities.

  • Previous experience teaching in medical education (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education).

  • Research or teaching experience or interests in applied ethics, ethics and technology, or environmental ethics (including public and population health ethics).

  • Demonstrated record of publication and/or grantspersonship.

Additional Application Materials Required

UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted online through the Human Resources website, www.ucf.edu/jobs. In addition to the online application, candidates should submit:

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.

NOTE: Please have all documents ready when applying so they can be simultaneously uploaded. Once the online submission process is finalized, the system does not allow applicants to submit additional documents later. Only complete applications will be considered.
