DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology (https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/department-philosophy) seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor starting in August 2024.  Candidates should have expertise in the following areas:

AOS: Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and/or Philosophy of Cognitive Science

AOC: Open, but the Department has particular interest in Neuroethics, Professional Ethics, Philosophy of Disability, or Aesthetics

The typical teaching load is five undergraduate courses split between the fall and spring semester, with the possibility of teaching in the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence and Ph.D. in Cognitive Science programs. A willingness and ability to engage in interdisciplinary research within the larger university is highly desirable.

We are particularly interested in individuals whose area of research expertise expands the current expertise of the faculty. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level, a strong research agenda, and service to the department, university and community. Teaching and research are priorities for faculty at RIT, and all faculty are expected to mentor students through advising, research and in-class experiences.

We are seeking an individual who has the ability and interest in contributing to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development and scholarship; integrity and ethics; respect, diversity, and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration. Select to view links to RIT’s core values, honor code, and statement of diversity.

The department is motivated by a dedication to excellence in teaching with several of the faculty being nominated and receiving awards for their work in the classroom. The department is also actively engaged in research with many of the faculty receiving awards, grants, and fellowships for their work.
