Description
The Earth Commons Institute and the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University are seeking to hire a tenured Associate or Full Professor in the field of Environmental Justice, with a tenure home in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the McCourt School of Public Policy. The successful candidate will serve as Director of the Environmental Justice Program within the Earth Commons Institute.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have an outstanding record of scholarship on environmental justice, with a Ph.D. in a related field,
  • Have a demonstrated ability to address related public policy questions in their research,
  • Have a track record in securing external funding, and
  • Be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will help connect faculty across the Earth Commons, the McCourt School of Public Policy, and the Emergent Ethics Network. We are therefore seeking someone who can communicate complex environmental justice issues and scholarship to many different audiences.

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching and service of both the McCourt School and Earth Commons as well as contribute to the development and delivery of new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate curricula in the Earth Commons, including the Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability Management, the new Master of Science in Environment and International Affairs, a new undergraduate degree and university-wide minor, as well as a doctoral program.

This position is central to Georgetown’s efforts to be a leader in environment and sustainability research, teaching, and action. The Earth Commons is a university priority and is growing rapidly. It will be located, in part, on the downtown Capitol Campus. We are seeking a candidate with the vision and capacity to build a successful program around environmental justice in downtown Washington DC, and with a strong commitment to securing funding to support these efforts.
