Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy (EXPIRED)

The Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, seeks candidates for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Philosophy (potential for renewal). Qualified candidates would have the ability to teach the capstone ethics course for the institution, which combines the Mercyhurst mission, core values, and critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy with the tools of ethical theory and application in social justice.

We are looking for candidates who can pair a specialty in ethics with additional background in one or more of the following: technology, particularly the ethics of AI; historical and contemporary non-Western or under-represented philosophies; diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ); and/or environmental philosophy or sustainability. The successful candidate would be able to work in interdisciplinary programs and support the development of a center for contemporary humanities at Mercyhurst.

The Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy has a major and minor in philosophy as well as an interdisciplinary minor in ethics that would be supported by classes taught by the successful candidate. Beyond those, courses could be proposed that reflect the candidate’s particular area(s) of specialization.
