Job description |
Assistant Professor of Philosophy: Environmental Ethics The Division of Humanities, New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy to begin Fall 2024. We seek candidates specializing in environmental ethics. Areas of competence are open, but an ability to teach courses in other areas of applied ethics, ethical theory, and/or philosophy of law are welcome. New College has an active program in environmental studies, and this position contributes to our instructional offerings in that interdisciplinary program. Experience teaching undergraduate students is highly desirable. PhD in philosophy required by the time of appointment. The teaching load is two courses per semester plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials. In addition to classes and tutorials, faculty members provide academic advising, supervise independent study projects, sponsor senior undergraduate theses/projects, and serve on baccalaureate committees. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a program of research. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching and an aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue. About New College New College is driven by a mission to be the best liberal arts college in America. New College, the nationally recognized honors college of the State University System of Florida, is an innovative liberal arts institution where students learn how to think, not what to think. Founded in 1960, the College has garnered national acclaim for its rigorous academics as students chart their own academic course with the assistance of faculty advisors and written assessments are given instead of letter grades. Conducting research is an important part of the undergraduate curriculum at New College with each student having to complete a senior thesis to graduate. The New College campus sits on the scenic Sarasota Bay and directly adjacent to one of the fastest-growing airports in the nation. The region consistently ranks among the best for quality of life, featuring world-famous beaches, historic architecture, and iconic fine & performing arts institutions. New College of Florida, an Equal Opportunity Employer, complies with all federal, state, and Florida Board of Governors regulations. In accordance with state law, all employees are subject to a background check at the time of hiring. |
