Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts University of Manitoba Rank: Instructor I or II, 2-year term position Position start date: July 1, 2024 Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Closing date for applications: February 8, 2024 Position Number: 34338 The Department of Philosophy at the University of Manitoba invites applications for one full-time limited two-year term appointment at the rank of Instructor I or Instructor II. The successful candidate needs to be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching. Applicants must hold a PhD or be ABD in Philosophy at the time of employment. The rank of Instructor II is normally restricted to those with 5 or more years of experience in a University or equivalent position. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. The UMFA collective agreement contains information about salary schedules (article 24) and Instructor ranks (article 34). The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more delivery modes that both complement the department’s strengths and address its needs in delivering its academic program. The position requires the ability to teach first year critical thinking, as well as one or more of the following areas at the second- or third-year level: philosophy of mind, epistemology, Kant, Early Modern, Indigenous philosophy, or formal logic. The normal course load for an Instructor is seven courses per year, with three courses taught in the fall, three in the winter, and one in the summer.
