Job description

The Ethics Institute of the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies is looking for a new colleague specialising in social and/or political philosophy.

We are looking for a new colleague specialising in social and/or political philosophy. The position is open to candidates with various specialisations, both in terms of research themes and in terms of methodological approaches, such as critical social theory, democratic theory, theories of justice, historical, intercultural, analytical, continental approaches, etc.

Your job

You will be embedded in the Ethics Institute of the department of Philosophy & Religious  Studies.  We highly value interdisciplinary collaboration. Your research specialisation should facilitate collaborations within one or more of Utrecht University’s research strategic themes(Institutions for Open Societies, Dynamics of Youth, Pathways to Sustainability, Life Sciences) or focus  areas.

We highly value connecting our research and teaching to societal stakeholders, in various forms of public outreach and engagement, collaborative research projects, etc. This is as much a contribution to society as an enrichment of our own fundamental research. For a sample of our work in the area, please visit the website of our various research and impact themes.

  • displays an interdisciplinary attitude: the willingness and ability to contribute to the development of interdisciplinary teaching and research, particularly in the research strategic themes and focus areas listed above
  • is willing to develop a societal impact agenda related to their academic work and teaching;  has an open and enthusiastic attitude: the willingness and ability to contribute actively to the formation of learning communities of staff and students’

Our offer

We offer:

  • a position for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract;
  • a working week of 38 hours, in which 40% of the time is reserved for research and 60% for teaching of which 10% is free space that will not be scheduled;
