Position Description:

The Philosophy Department at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for a lecturer position with a teaching obligation beginning August 19, 2024. The term is for up to three years. The area of research specialization is open. Applicants should have teaching competence in logic and social and political philosophy.

The teaching load for the position is 3/3. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in critical reasoning, formal logic, and social and political philosophy. Some of these classes will be in lecture format, so the position involves responsibility for supervising teaching assistants. The successful candidate will also likely have the opportunity to teach in their area of research interest. Further, the successful candidate will be welcome in the department’s active intellectual community, which includes colloquia, reading groups, and the like.

The Philosophy Department is committed to equity and inclusion and is working to increase diversity amongst its faculty. Members of groups historically underrepresented in the field and those from non-traditional backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Additionally, evidence of a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service will be valued. Binghamton University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in philosophy or closely related field by September 1, 2024. Experience teaching undergraduate classes, as a teaching assistant or an instructor, and the ability to teach at the graduate level in your area of specialization, are also required.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation. Applications should be submitted through the link below. Complete applications received by April 5 will receive full consideration.
