Job Purpose:

Gonzaga in Florence, the global gateway of Gonzaga University, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position, starting by January 2025. This position is located in Florence, Italy. Applicants must have current permission to work in Italy or in Europe to be considered for this position. We seek candidates with an Area of Specialization in Ethics, and an Area of Competence in Applied Ethics including, but not limited to, Ethics of mobility, Sustainable and Ethical tourism, Ethical destination management, Ethics of the city, or related subfields. This position will contribute to the development of an academic program in Destination Management

Gonzaga's core curriculum includes Reasoning (PHIL 101), Philosophy of Human Nature (PHIL 201), and Ethics (PHIL 301). Successful applicants will teach 24 credits per year and will assume ongoing responsibility for teaching Ethics, for which they should include a description of their interest in and approach to this course in their teaching statement, as well as one course in their area of specialization, that could fulfill the Core Integration Seminar (CIS) requirement. Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proof of Permit to work in Italy/Europe in hand, applications without this requirement will not be considered.
  • Ph.D. in Philosophy. 
  • Evidence of active scholarly engagement.
  • Ability to adopt inclusive course design and teaching strategies.
  • Ability to contribute to the mission of Gonzaga University
  • Proficiency in English.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least one year of teaching experience to American students.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience in course and program design and development.
  • Experience in Destination Management or Cultural Heritage Protection.

Job Duties:

  • Teach four courses per semester, with primary responsibility in PHIL 301/Ethics.
  • Applicants should also be prepared to teach one course in their area of competence.
  • Program Development in the field of Destination Management.
