The University of Richmond Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2025-26 academic year. The Department seeks to hire a teacher-scholar whose research focuses on the history of philosophy and who is prepared to teach an upper-level course on Kant. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Introduction to Philosophy and Modern European Philosophy. We welcome candidates whose expertise will broaden the scope of our department’s offerings, including the history of philosophy, and contribute to interdisciplinary programs based on expertise. The position carries a 3-2 teaching load. Applicants must either hold a PhD in Philosophy or show credible evidence that they will complete the dissertation and degree requirements by August 1, 2025. The cover letter should describe the candidate’s commitment to the teacher-scholar model and provide a brief summary of the candidate's research and teaching interests. The research statement should expand on the candidate’s research agenda and expertise. The teaching statement should articulate the candidate’s teaching philosophy, interests, and future professional development goals as well as involvement in and commitment to inclusive pedagogy. Candidates should specifically address their approach to teaching Modern European Philosophy and Introduction to Philosophy with the aim of generating student interest and sustained enrollments.
