Teaching Assistant Professor, History and Philosophy of Science Rank: Teaching Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2025. AOS: History and Philosophy of Science AOC: History and Philosophy of Medicine The Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a candidate for a position as Teaching Assistant Professors specializing in History and Philosophy of Science beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year, pending budgetary approval. Teaching Assistant Professors are eligible for renewal and promotion (for more information, please see https://www.as.pitt.edu/faculty/governance/criteria-promotion-appointment-evaluation-and-reappointment-appointment-stream). Required Qualifications: (1) A PhD in History and Philosophy of Science, Philosophy, or a closely related field expected by the proposed start date, (2) interest in integrating history and philosophy of science as well as knowledge of the science or sciences relevant to their teaching, and (3) evidence of exemplary teaching. Responsibilities: Undergraduate teaching in support of the HPS major and the Certificate in the Conceptual Foundations of Medicine (3 courses per semester). Regular departmental duties. There are opportunities for departmental service that may be offset by a reduced teaching load. Applicants should submit a CV, three letters of recommendation, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., standardized student evaluations, peer reviews of teaching performance), and sample syllabi. In addition, applicants should provide a brief personal statement of interest as well as a separate diversity statement that addresses their contributions to diversity through research, teaching, service and/or community engagement.
