JOB PURPOSE: The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Wyoming is looking to hire an Assistant Professor (TT) with a specialization in philosophy of science, and with competence in logic. Minimum qualification is a PhD in Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, History and Philosophy of Science, or Logic and Philosophy of Science by August 2025. The ideal candidate should be interested in developing closer relationships with units across campus relevant to their expertise: for example, ecology, zoology/physiology, Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, physics, School of Computing, computer science, and so on. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses in philosophy from the introductory to advanced undergraduate levels, especially Early Modern Philosophy and service courses (e.g. Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Philosophy as a Way of Life, Philosophy and Science Fiction). Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through the statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. The standard teaching load is five courses/year, with a reduced teaching load of 2/2 for the first three years and in subsequent years for extraordinary research productivity. Summer teaching is available. COMPETENCIES: Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications (or forthcoming publications) in highly-ranked journals, presentations at regional or national or international conferences, and letters of reference. The successful candidate will be expected to have an active research program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a PhD in Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of History and Science, or Logic and Philosophy of Science by August 2025. This position requires the successful candidate to work on campus.
