Job description

The Comparative Humanities program in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Habib University invites applications in Habib University's Global Fellows program from committed educators and professionals in the academic area of Philosophy. Habib University's two-year Global Fellows Program offers advantages over typical postdoctoral positions. It caters to outstanding scholars worldwide, integrating them as faculty, offering diverse opportunities, and supporting long-term career prospects. The program also offers flexibility of one-year fellowships.

We are seeking Global Fellows who are passionate about teaching and student learning at the undergraduate level in line with global developments in their field. They also engage in the intellectual life of the university through public speaking sessions, student mentoring and curriculum enrichment. Fall appointments begin August 1st and Spring appointments begin January 1st.

Qualifications: Global Fellows in Philosophy would have completed Ph.D. in Philosophy, with areas of specialization in Philosophy in the Islamic World, Logic, History of Philosophy, World Philosophy or Comparative Philosophy from a leading university in the world. Candidates with a broad, comparative outlook on issues in the history of philosophy are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will possess excellent teaching and scholarly skills, will be able to work with a diverse population of students and colleagues, will enjoy influencing the intellectual growth of their students, will be passionate about undergraduate research and is excited to work with colleagues across disciplines. Experience studying in and/or working in a liberal arts environment will be an advantage. 

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses, student mentorship, research supervision and collaboration, public seminars, and curriculum enrichment. Global fellows will actively contribute to teaching the Habib Liberal Core course Hikma I: History of Islamic Thought (covering philosophical/wisdom traditions in the Islamic World), and foundational level logic and formal reasoning courses. Global Fellows are also encourage to develop new philosophy electives in their areas of expertise to address curricular needs in the philosophy concentration, philosophy minor, and the university core. The annual teaching load of Global Fellows is four(4) three- or four-credit courses. 

The Global Fellows are provided competitive renumeration, relocation funds, space in university housing, and protection against currency fluctuations. Global Fellows will have the opportunity to transition to a full-time faculty position towards the end of their fellowship.
