UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, Iowa City, IA. The Department of Philosophy at the University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. AOS: epistemology and/or philosophy of science. AOC: open, but must have the ability to teach courses in both epistemology and philosophy of science at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will have a highly promising research program suitable for a public research university (R1), and excellent teaching skills, including an ability to foster stimulating discussions for all students in a welcoming and respectful environment in the classroom. Responsibilities include conducting scholarly research, teaching graduate and undergraduate classes, directing Ph.D. dissertations, and providing service to the department, college, and university. The teaching load is 4 courses per year (usually 2 per semester), with an opportunity for a reduced teaching load for one of the semesters following a successful 3rd year review. The position comes with a generous start-up package (for moving costs and research/travel) and excellent benefits. The appointment will begin on August 20, 2025.
