Job description |
The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2025. The Department of Philosophy and Religion provides distinctive academic programs in which students critically and creatively examine the beliefs, values, practices, and institutions that shape human lives. The department guides students in becoming reflective and resilient individuals who contribute to their communities in constructive and meaningful ways. It achieves this mission through excellence in teaching, research, and service; a variety of pedagogical approaches and research methods; collegial and collaborative relationships; and an abiding commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability. In its curriculum and campus engagements, it recognizes a plurality of the world’s many philosophical and religious perspectives. The department offers separate undergraduate degree programs in Philosophy and Religious Studies and minors in Philosophy, Religious Studies, Philosophy and Religious Studies, and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Instructional duties will include teaching in the areas of the AOS and AOC, and teaching other philosophy courses as needed. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities. All faculty and staff are expected to support Appalachian State University’s Strategic Priorities. |
